Gay Son, Thot Daughter
“I just loved the idea of us fighting over this fluid guy, who we don't know which way he's leaning,” Cabello tells Rolling Stone
Camila Cabello and Lil Nas X are fighting over a man. Well, at least in their new “He Knows” video, which dropped Wednesday.
“I’ve just never seen that in a video before,” Cabello tells Rolling Stone about seeing a guy and a girl fight over a love interest. “I just loved the idea of us fighting over this fluid guy, who we don’t know which way he’s leaning. We both would have so much fun with this and have so much fun with the video, so we got to make it a reality.”
The cinematic video follows Cabello dancing with a love interest before Lil Nas X comes in and swoops him. An angry Cabello then jumps on Lil Nas X, and the duo get into a physical altercation before realizing he was just a bald mannequin and that maybe they shouldn’t fight over dudes.
“We had this stunt coordinator at rehearsals. It’s always hard to even fake fight with your friends because you’re like, ‘Oh, I got to get into my acting bag, and I might kind of do some damage,'” Cabello adds. “And he’s tall as hell, so even getting on his shoulder took me a couple of times. But it was fun.”
Cabello also shares her excitement about working with Nas on the single, calling him a “low-key comedian.”
“He was just making me laugh so hard,” says Cabello. “It makes sense that he is successful because he has pushed the culture forward in so many ways.”
On Tuesday, Cabello caught up with Rolling Stone to give an update on her upcoming album, C, XOXO, which she called a “complicated, exciting girl.” (She led the album with the single “I Luv It,” which she debuted onstage with Lana Del Rey at Coachella.) “This is the best project I’ve ever made, and I have never been so proud of a body of work. It’s just such a world,” she said. “My favorite albums are when I really get to live in a lyric or live in an aesthetic of an album.”
