- Maserati has introduced the new GranCabrio Folgore.
- The electric convertible features a tri-motor powertrain producing up to 818 hp and 996 lb-ft of torque.
- The car has a WLTP range of between 260 and 278 miles.
If you’re still waiting on the second-generation Tesla Roadster, you might want to keep an open mind and check out the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore. It’s a gorgeous electric convertible that promises to turn you on.
Marketing hyperbole aside, the model follows in the footsteps of its ICE-powered counterpart but adopts an aerodynamically optimized design. As part of the makeover, the car has been outfitted with a new front bumper and a revised grille. Buyers will also find staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels, which can be equipped with low rolling resistance tires.

The real highlight is the power retractable soft top, which can be lowered in 14 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph (50 km/h). The roof will be available in five colors – Nero, Blue Marine, Titan Grey, Greige, and Granata – and customers will be able to order an optional wind stopper to help minimize wind buffeting.
Speaking of the cabin, it features a high-tech feel thanks to a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and an 8.8-inch comfort display. They’re joined by a heated, flat-bottom steering wheel with brushed aluminum paddle shifters. Other highlights include a standard neck warmer, a Sonus faber audio system, and a digital clock that offers three different skins as well as accelerator, compass, G-force meter, and stopwatch displays.
The interior is extensively customizable and can be equipped with sustainable materials such as Econyl. It’s a “regenerated nylon” material that is made from things such as recycled fishing nets and carpets.
Motivation is provided by a 92.5 kWh battery pack that feeds a tri-motor powertrain. The latter combines a front-mounted electric motor with two located out back.
This setup gives the car all-wheel drive, rear torque vectoring, and a combined maximum output of 818 hp (610 kW / 829 PS) and 996 lb-ft (1,350 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the impressive output, the GranCabrio can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). More importantly, the model is slated to have a WLTP range of between 260 and 278 miles (419 and 447 km).
When it comes time to recharge, owners will be thankful for the 270 kW DC fast charging capability which enables the car to get up to 62 miles (100 km) of range in as little as five minutes. If you’re not in a rush, the battery can go from a 20-80% charge in as little as 18 minutes.
Owners will find four different driving modes known as GT, Sport, Corsa, and Max Range. Most of them are self-explanatory, but GT is the default mode and it delivers a traditional granturismo driving experience. Corsa, on the other hand, is the most extreme and unleashes the full power of the electric motors.
The GranCabrio Folgore will apparently arrive in the United States next year and it likely cost a pretty penny as the ICE-powered model begins at $203,000.
