NEW YORK -- Bartolo Colon hasn’t pitched in a Major League game since 2018, when he was with the Rangers. Five years later, Colon, 50, officially announced his retirement as a member of the Mets before Sunday's finale against the Reds at Citi Field.
Colon, who holds the record for most victories by a Dominican pitcher with 247, had greater success with Cleveland and the Angels, but he wanted to end his career as a Met. He said the fans in New York made him feel at home.
“I’m grateful for the Cleveland organization, because they are the ones that gave me the opportunity and the start of my career,” Colon said through interpreter Alan Suriel. “If it was up to my parents and the rest of my family, they probably wanted me to retire in Cleveland. [The New York fan base] accepted and supported me the most. That’s why I felt really comfortable here.”
While with the Mets, Colon was known as "Big Sexy," a nickname given to him by teammate Noah Syndergaard. At first, Colon thought the moniker was calling him fat, but Syndergaard assured him that was not the case.
“Syndergaard said that is a good thing. So, yeah, the nickname stuck, and I ended up liking it,” Colon said.
Colon pitched with the Mets from 2014-16, going 44-34 with a 3.90 ERA in 98 games (95 starts). He helped guide the Mets to the World Series in 2015, but is best remembered for two memorable moments: The first one came in ‘15 against the Marlins, when he performed a behind-the-back flip to retire Justin Bour at first base.
The second one was belting his first Major League home run, a bomb over the left-field wall on May 7, 2016, in San Diego off right-hander James Shields. Colon became the oldest player (42 years, 349 days) to hit his first Major League home run.
When he was with the Mets, Colon was not the pitcher who threw 95 to 100 mph in his prime. He was more of a finesse pitcher who was lucky to reach 90 mph. He credits Greg Maddux for advising him how to be a finesse pitcher.
“He told me I should be throwing two-seamers more often. At the time, I didn’t like throwing two-seamers,” Colon said. "… As I grew as a pitcher, I started to implement the command over the velocity. That’s what helped me when I was [with the Mets].”
Despite losing his fastball velocity, Colon had great command of all of his pitches -- changeup, slider and the fastball -- according to former Mets manager Terry Collins, who was part of Colon's retirement ceremony press conference.
“He could go through a lineup three times with one pitch and have four different [angles], because he sunk it here and he sunk it there and he sunk it down there. Nothing was ever in the middle of the plate,” Collins said. "For me, what he did in the clubhouse was show all of the other pitchers you don’t have to throw 100 to be successful. It’s command your fastball, and that was the art that he did.”

Imagine a zero-emission rival to the BMW 4-Series, Mercedes-Benz CLE, and Audi A5 coming from Tesla
3 hours ago
This story features independent renderings that are not affiliated with or endorsed by Tesla.
Tesla, known for sticking to sedans alongside its crossover siblings, has never delved into the world of coupe variants for its mainstream models. It’s as if they’re saying, “Who needs two doors when you can have four?” But lo and behold, digital artist Theophilus Chin comes along and creates renderings of a Tesla GT coupe.
Unsurprisingly, the model borrows the styling language of the freshly revealed 2024 Tesla Model 3. Those slim LED headlights, grille-less front, and clean bumper surfacing of the latter look sexier when mounted on a longer hood. Similarly, the coupe’s sleek roofline, frameless doors, and elongated rear end make it a more attractive prospect compared to the standard sedan. Add the mind-blowing performance of the Tesla Model S Plaid into the mix, and you have a pretty desirable product waiting to happen.
Theottle used the 2019 BMW Concept 4 as a base for the front and rear renderings of the Tesla GT. This sounds like a fitting choice in terms of proportions, as it previewed the similarly-sized BMW 4-Series Coupe. The latter would make for an ICE-powered competitor to the fictional EV, alongside the Audi A5 Coupe and the Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupe. Since the fully electric BMW i4 is only available in the Grand Coupe five-door liftback bodystyle, the Tesla GT wouldn’t have a direct rival. Of course, that would change if the Genesis X Coupe Concept evolves into a production offering, or if Alfa Romeo reveals a fully electric Giulia coupe.
The nearest competitor to Theophilus Chin’s Tesla GT rendering is perhaps the long-awaited Tesla Roadster, which may or may not make its debut in 2024 after an endless string of delays. However, it’s worth noting that the supercar-style aesthetics and performance-oriented nature of the Roadster are distinct from the elegant two-door, four-seater grand tourer showcased in these illustrations.
Sure, we understand that the sales numbers in this niche segment might not make financial sense for Tesla, given the substantial development costs involved. Nevertheless, wouldn’t it be rather refreshing if Tesla surprised us all by introducing a coupe version of the existing Model 3 or perhaps even in the next iteration of the Model S? It’s a tantalizing thought for sure.
In Selena's sexy post, she showed off her outfit which included a nude bustier corset top and jeans.
The star nearly slipped out of the tight corset top and showed off her busty figure, revealing her bare shoulders.
Selena didn't choose any accessories to go with the outfit besides her perfectly manicured nails painted red.
She wore her dark hair loose and styled it pin-straight.
The actress did not show her face in the selfie, and fans could only see her right arm which held her phone pointing at her reflection in an ornate bathroom mirror.
Her left arm was not visible in the Instagram photo because the mirror frame cropped it off.
IS SELENA OKAY?
After the MTVVideo Music Awards ceremony in New York City earlier this week, Selena was spotted outside of her hotel wearing a wrist brace on her right arm.
In the photo, she appeared to be in pain as she was spotted slightly grimacing.

The singer was clutching her stomach with her left arm as she marched toward her parked vehicle.
Selena was driven to the John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York.
Her latest sexy selfie appeared to indicate that she is okay.
Selena's wrist brace was not visible in the new bathroom mirror selfie.
She did not add a caption to the photo to give fans an update on her health.
ORANGE YOU GLAD
The photo with the nude corset is not the first time Selena has flaunted her impressive figure by wearing revealing tops.
Last month, Selena modeled a tight $190 Guizio corset emphasizing her chest.
In one photo she posted on her Instagram account, she showed off the full outfit and paired a matching leather jacket with the orange corset.
Fans gushed over Selena in the comments of her post as one called the star "radiant."
Another gushed: "Selena can't stop serving," and a third called her "gorgeous."
In July, the pop star enjoyed a day out on a boat and nearly slipped out of her blush-pink bikini.
The color was almost nude and the revealing swimsuit left little to the imagination.
She showed off her curves as she sat with her eyes closed and enjoyed the breeze.

Though Brazilian singer Anitta has become a household name, on some days, she just wants to be Larissa.
After breaking into the scene in 2013 with her self-titled debut, the "Envolver" singer revealed a new side of herself: the sexy and unapologetic Anitta we know today. Since then, the trilingual singer has achieved international stardom — and learned that she can be both Anitta and Larissa (her real name is Larissa de Macedo Machado).
"Larissa is very private, very relaxed, very low key and very quiet. Anitta is the opposite: outspoken, exposing myself," the singer, 30, tells PEOPLE in this week's issue in light of Hispanic Heritage Month. "I think it’s two completely different people and I used to struggle with that."
She continues, "It [used to be] two sides of my brain fighting with each other. [Then,] I learned how to make them communicate."
As she navigates stardom, Anitta — who earned a best new artist Grammy nomination this year — says her family is what keeps her grounded.
"They give me a perception of partnership, relationships, and friendship like nothing else. They treat me like a normal person even if here in Brazil I am treated like a queen, a superstar," she says. "It’s a very simple, humble relationship and I love that about us. We are always together. They are the ones that make me feel like myself."
Since she was a young girl, Anitta knew she wanted to be a singer: "When I was a kid, I was like, 'I’m going to be a singer. I’m going to sing here, I'm going to sing there.'"
"It’s funny to look at myself when I was a kid saying [these] things and now being like, 'I did it,'" she says.
But the road wasn't easy. Anitta — who was born in the working-class neighborhood of HonĂ³rio Gurgel in Brazil — experienced poverty, her parents' divorce and survived sexual assault by a former boyfriend.
"All the struggles teach us something," she says. “I [now] look at the things I’ve been through with gratitude. Not like ‘Oh, that was good,’ but for what I learned — for [the ability to] look at myself as a stronger person, as someone who always deserves better.”
Between starring in Rihanna’s latest Savage X Fenty, making her acting debut next month in
the Spanish-language Netflix series Elite and finishing her next album, Anitta wants people to familiarize her new fans with Brazilian funk — and serve as an inspiration to them all at the same time.
“I [want fans to know] that they can do whatever they want, be whoever they want, and they should love themselves before any other person,” she says. “I’m a good example of that.”

Last night was the MTV Video Music Awards and I didn’t watch it because I don’t have cable and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was on. But I did follow all the red (OK, pink) carpet fashions on Twitter. And now it’s time to share my Top 10 Looks!
Disclaimer #1: This list will be a mix of standard gorgeous dresses, totally bonkers “I wanna go viral” choices, and skin, skin, skin! And if I don’t like you (Jared Leto) or think you’re totally overexposed (Taylor Swift), you simply won’t make the list.
Disclaimer #2: As I write this at my kitchen table, I’m wearing what can only be described as a muumuu (although I prefer the term “house dress”). So take these fashion opinions with a grain.
Megan Thee Stallion
I love this. It’s sexy but also, somehow, classy. Is it classy? I feel like it’s classy. Either way, Megan looks beautiful.
Doja Cat
This “dress” (tatters?) answers the age-old question: “What would it look like if Doja Cat walked through a haunted house wearing only a flesh-colored thong?”
Ice Spice (ft. Lil Nas X)
Ice Spice rocked a super-lacy “Like A Virgin” bridal look on the red carpet, but I prefer her second white dress: this sexy, sheer, stitched-up curve-hugger gown. Speaking of bridal, here’s Lil Nas in white, sticking it to the Catholic church (I think).
Nicki Minaj More lacy bridal! But this time, it’s pink. The real question is, why does Nicki look so sad under there? Is it the fact that her groom is a registered sex offender?
Bebe Rexha
On Monday, Bebe Rexha posted a TikTok revealing she was on the fence about attending the VMAs. She was anxious that people would criticize her body online. Ultimately, Bebe decided to show up, and she wore a black leather dress with butt cut-outs and a horse tail. Alrighty then!
Ashanti
Wow! Turtle titties and a Nelly bag. Nelly and Ashanti dated from 2003 to 2014, and, yesterday, Ashanti revealed they were back together. Reading that headline gave me happy gossip nostalgia, until Google reminded me that multiple women have accused Nelly of sexual assault. Sigh. That certainly makes Ashanti’s clutch less fun.
Cardi BPage Six says Cardi’s strapless silver gown is made entirely of hair clips! And check out the matching wrist cuffs. While this dress is certainly stunning to look at, there’s no way it’s comfortable to sit in. My thoughts are with Cardi’s butt.
Olivia Rodrigo
This dress may be a little simpler than the others on this list, but I just can’t knock a metallic sparkle-gown. I debated whether to include this slinky silver look or Shakira’s sexy gold cut-out one, but Olivia won out cuz I can’t get “get him back!” out of my head.
Coco Jones
Before last night, I wasn’t familiar with Coco Jones. Wikipedia tells she’s a former Disney teen who currently stars as Hilary Banks in the gritty Fresh Prince reboot, Bel-Air. She’s also an R&B singer who just won Best New Artist at the 2023 BET Awards. Anyway, I love love love this look, especially the leather boob belt.
Saweetie
What in the Pebbles from Flintstones? Saweetie’s dress is ridiculous and I love it. Especially the pics where she’s attempting to lick the bone but her tongue can’t quite reach.
For the star-studded event at New Jersey's Prudential Center, the "Get Into It" singer sashayed along the red carpet in a spooky white slip gown by Oscar De La Renta that left little to the imagination with its spiderweb design.
And in true Doja fashion, she paired her nipple-baring ensemble with equally bold accessories that consisted of flesh-exposing heels, a diamond-studded belly ring, nude underwear and sparkly jewelry pieces that looked like creepy-crawlers.
She also stepped outside of the box in the beauty department, opting for spidery-looking lashes, stark white eyeshadow that matched her dress and face gems for added oomph.
It's safe to assume Doja's spine-chilling getup is a nod to her Scarlet album cover artwork, which features a white background with two intertwined eight-legged creatures with pearl-embellished backs.
