Guess blondes don’t always have more fun.
Billie Eilish shocked fans when she swapped her signature bright green hair for a platinum dye job in 2021 — but she wasn’t exactly “Happier Than Ever” with lighter locks.
“I didn’t feel sexy for one second of being blond,” the 20-year-old Grammy winner — who’s also experimented with blue, red and silver strands in the past — told Highsnobiety.
“When I was blonde, people treated me differently. People completely changed their demeanor [around me].”
While Eilish stopped short of elaborating on the different treatment she received, she told the publication why she decided to go bottle-blond — and trade her usual oversized clothes for more skin-baring fashion fare — in the first place.
“People saw me as this 15-year-old, a kid, who wore this kind of stuff, looked this kind of way, acted this kind of way, said this kind of way. I felt like I couldn’t change. That’s why I went so far to the other side,” she explained.
“I was trying to prove, ‘Hey, f—k you guys, I can do whatever I want.’ Now I can look really masculine if I want, and really feminine if I want, and it’s not gonna be a f—king headline.”
And the “Your Power” chart-topper — who wore her hair jet-black for her Highsnobiety cover shoot — was quick to confirm that even if she mixes it up from time to time, her trademark baggy outfits aren’t going anywhere.
“It’s not that you wear one thing, and that’s your new style — you f—king keep wearing a bunch of s—t,” she said.
Eilish set a new Instagram record when she first went platinum in March 2021, with the photo of her big reveal racking up 1 million likes in just six minutes.
A few months later, she slipped further into bombshell mode by posing for a pinup-inspired British Vogue shoot in a series of sexy lingerie-inspired looks. At the time, she told the magazine she was loving being a blonde.
“I feel more like a woman, somehow,” she told the glossy.
Seems she’d rather be the “Bad Guy.”
