Kelly Ripa was gobsmacked when she found out her 25-year-old son Michael, whom she shares with husband Mark Consuelos, was named one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest People Alive.”
Ryan Seacrest broke the news to his co-star on Wednesday’s episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan,” where he exclaimed, “I’m flipping through [the issue] … and I see this page ‘Gen Next’ … Michael is one of the ‘Sexiest People Alive.'”
Seacrest showed the page to the camera where Michael is seen modeling in a green blazer beside an old photo of his dad when he was his son’s age.
Ripa, 52, responded with total astonishment as she examined the page where her son had a smoldering look on his face.
“Are you kidding me?” Ripa asked, adding “Give me this,” before snatching the magazine out of Seacrest’s hands to take a closer look.
She put on her glasses to study the page and read the blurb about her son.
“You would think he would tell us so we’d pick up a couple of copies for the grandparents,” Ripa said.
She then shared that she always forgets her son and her husband look alike until she sees side-by-side photos of them like how they were displayed on the page.
“It’s crazy,” she said before proceeding to read the description of her son in the magazine.
“‘Michael respects his father’s work ethic,'” Ripa read from the page before showing a confused face to the camera and joking, “Yeah, he worked one day last week.”
She continued reading, “I admire my dad’s organization and timeliness. Growing up we were always really early and if I’m not early some place I kind of freak out.'”
Ripa shared, “That is true. Mark has made us all crazy about time. If we’re not two hours early, we’re late.”
She then gushed over her son’s amazing qualities that make her a proud mom.
“Michael Consuelos. I always considered you a handsome young fellow. Conscientious, hard-working, diligent, respectful,” she said. But then she whispered, “I had no idea that you were considered sexy.”
Seacrest then reminded Ripa that she should be proud that her son earned the title.
“No I know,” Ripa said, adding, “I always found his father to be sexy.”
Seacrest responded, “Well … apple, tree.”
The “American Idol” host also poked fun at the photo of Michael and his lack of clothing.
“I love the hunter green blazer, shirtless, didn’t have time to put a shirt on this morning, didn’t really think it through, just a blazer, but I forgot my shirt,” Seacrest joked.
Meanwhile, Chris Evans was named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday.
Ripa has gushed over her eldest son in the past, sharing how proud she was of him after he graduated from New York University in May 2020.
She caught heat in 2019 for sharing that Micahel was experiencing “extreme poverty” for the first time after he moved to Bushwick, Brooklyn where he paid his own rent.
But Ripa defended her words, saying that she only meant that it was the first time Michael was out in the world supporting himself.
“Michael goes to college and is a senior and works full time. He is in his first nonparent subsidized apt with roommates,” she said at the time. “I’m used to getting a lot of slack because people love to have fake outrage over something they didn’t see. They only read a headline and wag their tired fingers.”
She added, “I didn’t grow up privileged and neither did @instasuelos,” she added, referring to her husband. “We work and we expect our kids to as well. And the fact that a pack of fools want to bitch about that, I say let em.”
Ripa and Mark, 51, got married in 1996 and share three kids: Michael, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19.
