The hottest Halloween costume of the year is being hot.
On TikTok, a sexy fairy costume is trending, but some are hesitant to call it a costume. It’s just purchasing a sheer, short, inexpensive negligee by the brand Avidlove on Amazon and adding a pair of wings, so one can justify calling it a costume.
Influencer and model Caroline Jayna Kempczynski first set off the trend of the sexy twist on a traditional fairy costume. In 2021, she posted a look featuring a green negligee from Avidlove accessorized with some oversized wings and a petite flower crown. In recent weeks, the look has gone viral, with various videos featuring young women in the “viral fairy dress” fluttering around TikTok, attracting millions of views, and sending fans flying to Amazon.com.
In one video with almost 4 million views, TikToker Lara Kahn excitedly shows followers her costume has arrived.
“It is transparent though,” she says as she pulls the powder-blue frock into frame, noting in a later clip that she is wearing beige-colored “skim shorts” underneath. “But the dress is super cute.”
The simple frock — which ranges in size from XS to 5XL — comes in a variety of colors, with prices ranging from $8.99 to $18.99.
Kahn, 20, who is currently based in Montreal, Canada, said the sexy novelty is the main draw.
“When we think of fairy costumes, I don’t think we ever think of that particular costume, so it’s something different, and I think that’s why everyone loves it so much,” she gushed to The Post of the viral look. Seeing how great it looked on Kempczynski was also part of the appeal.
“She looked stunning,” Kahn said. “Her hair was wavy, and she had the sparkles on her eyes, and I think that everyone wanted to look exactly like that.”
Madison Robichaud, a 21-year-old in North Carolina, is such a fan of the costume that she and three friends have each purchased the dress in a different color and all plan to wear them together on Halloween.
“We thought it would be fun,” she said of the frock, adding that it’s “trendy, flirty, unique and fun.”
Not everyone is a fan of the costume, with some quick to point out that, at the end of the day, it is a piece of lingerie being worn at the end of October.
“It’s more like something you wear for your bf loll that’s gonna be so cold,” one temperature-conscious critic wrote.
“Y’all know this is lingerie, right?” another dubious commenter wrote. “Like you look INCREDIBLE girl! but this shit was plucked from [intimates retailer] Ann Summers and called a Halloween costume.”
