From Boom To Bust: How The Sexy, Fast-Growing, Former Pandemic Darlings Are A Cautionary Warning To Job Seekers - Forbes

Be careful chasing after jobs with burgeoning, sexy, high-flying companies. Understandably, you want to be associated with a top firm to earn a large compensation package, stock options, internal growth prospects and social status. You feel that working at a marquee brand-name company can open doors for you in the future. It will catapult your career as hiring managers lavish praise over your résumé.

However, recent events show that there’s a catch. Many of the highly coveted, fast-growing and headline-catching companies turned out to be a flash in the pan. These glamorous companies crumbled when the economy, stock market and job market softened.

From Boom To Bust

Netflix, Zoom, Peloton, Wayfair and Shopify were all pandemic darlings. As people were sheltering in place at home, they were living online. Watching Tiger King on Netflix relieved the boredom of being stuck indoors. You may have ordered a Peloton bike online since your gym was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. To communicate with co-workers and family, Zoom was a savior. Shopping for work chairs, desks and home furnishings was fun and easy on Wayfair or Shopify.

These and other related pandemic stars saw their stock prices skyrocket due to the demand for their products and online services. The downside was that people couldn’t wait to get out of their homes once the economy reopened. The share prices of work-from-home stocks cratered. Massive layoffs ensued, as their business models didn’t hold up as well in the post-pandemic era.

Oh, How The Mighty Have Fallen

Tech-giant Apple wasn’t immune to market forces. The company laid off around 100 contract recruiters, foreshadowing that there won’t be much new hiring happening. Social media platform Twitter laid off a third of its talent acquisition team, as the company is contending with a contentious takeover battle waged by Elon Musk, and plagued with allegations of bots overrunning the site.

The once-blazing, hot crypto sector saw Coinbase, Gemini, OpenSea and others digital asset platforms downsize workers, enact hiring freezes and rescind job offers. The once go-to site for trading meme stocks and cryptocurrencies, online startup brokerage firm Robinhood let go of 23% of its staff in its second round of cuts this year.

Know What You’re Getting Yourself Into

This doesn’t mean that you must always avoid fast-growing companies, cool and new startups or buzzy businesses that garner a lot of attention. Just don’t go after a company because the media or your friends say it’s great.

To avoid joining a roller-coaster ride that may be fun for a while, but could quickly veer off the rails, do your homework. Check into the financial situation of your target companies. See if they are earning meaningful revenue and profits. If you are not numbers oriented, find someone who can read and understand financial statements to determine if they are in a strong position or hemorrhaging money.

If it’s a venture capital-backed startup, are they burning through cash, or does the company have sufficient funds to weather challenging new times?? Research the founders and top executives to learn about their past successes and failures.

High-profile companies can seduce you into complacency. Don't let your guard down just because they are well-known or currently the hot business of the month. Go on LinkedIn, Blind, Glassdoor, Facebook and Twitter to find out what workers say about their companies. Their posts may either make you want to run away or they’ll alleviate your concerns.

Be On Guard When Interviewing

When you interview, avoid getting starstruck. Ask tough questions. As you meet with other people during the hiring process, inquire how they feel about the place. Are they happy, discouraged or fearful of impending doom?

Tap into your network to see if you know anyone who is currently or has recently worked at the company you’re interested in. Politely ask if they could give you the real insider scoop of what’s happening, and whether or not they would recommend that you accept an offer and work there.

What To Expect Moving Forward

With the Federal Reserve’s new mandate to cool down the economy, in an effort to whip inflation, it’s reasonable to conclude that the job market will be softer for a while. As the economy contracts, interest rates rise, inflation rages and a possible recession is on the horizon, businesses will reign in their costs and be more budget conscious.

The Great Resignation trend flourished when jobs were abundant and readily available. If or when this changes, you can no longer quit your job and feel comfortable that you’ll automatically find another better-paying opportunity. Take your time before making any rash decisions. You may end up sitting on the sidelines for months, as there are fewer openings for your line of work. In a more austere environment, you need to be cautious.

See Gal Gadot In A Sexy String Bikini Sitting Poolside - Giant Freakin Robot

By Michileen Martin | Published

gal gadot

As not only one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but a mother of three, Gal Gadot is just about as busy as a person could be. Still, luckily for her and for the rest of us, the Wonder Woman star still finds time to chill out by the pool. Over the weekend, Gadot posted a series of shots of herself relaxing by the pool in a string bikini.

Gal Gadot posted three shots of herself, from a sunny day by the pool, with nothing but a cinnamon brown string bikini between herself and the elements. In one shot she pushes her leg playfully in the pool, and you can just barely see what is presumably the hands of one of her children reaching out for her. You can see the images below.

In most likelihood, we’re finding Gal Gadot in a well-deserved break between productions. In late July, Gadot announced that principal photography had just wrapped on her upcoming spy thriller Heart of Stone. The Red Notice actress plays Rachel Stone, a secret agent working for a global peacekeeping organization. She will be joined by Jamie Dorman (The Fall), Alia Bhatt (Highway), Sophie Okonedo (Death on the Nile), Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of Thieves), Jing Lusi (Crazy Rich Asians), and Paul Ready (Utopia). Heart of Stone is directed by Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders), from a script by Greg Rucka (The Old Guard) and Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures).

We don’t know exactly what project Gal Gadot will be working on next, but she certainly has plenty of blockbusters lined up. Not only is she expected to reunite with director Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman 3, but it’s possible multiple sequels in the DC Comics film franchise have been greenlit. An unconfirmed report from early in August indicated that while we haven’t seen her don her iconic tiara since 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, the superhero is set to appear in multiple upcoming DCEU films.

Gal Gadot Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman (2017)

The fact that we’re now seeing Gal Gadot chilling out by the pool could throw the proverbial wrench in fan theorists who, as ScreenRant notes, have been arguing for a while that her Fast and Furious character isn’t dead. Though Gisele was shown sacrificing herself to save Han (Sung Kang) in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6, some fans have refused to accept her death. But with the Fast franchise finally wrapping things up and Gadot hanging out poolside while her former castmates are busy filming Fast X, it seems likely we won’t be seeing her character return for the finale.

Of course, that won’t leave Gal Gadot without any work. Along with future appearances of Wonder Woman as well as Netflix’s multiple sequels planned to Red Notice, the Death on the Nile star has some historically-themed projects lined up. She’ll be starring in and producing Irena Sendler, chronicling the heroism of the eponymous Polish woman who saved thousands of Jewish children during the Holocaust. In June, Deadline reported Universal was showing interest in her upcoming historical epic Cleopatra, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s Kari Skogland looking to direct.

Jessica Simpson puts on a sexy display in crop top and frayed Daisy Dukes - Daily Mail

Jessica Simpson puts on a sexy display in crop top and frayed Daisy Dukes as she continues displaying her 100lb weight loss

Jessica Simpson sizzled as she showed off her svelte body in her latest Instagram post.

The songstress, 42, put on a sexy display in a sparkling crop top and frayed Daisy Dukes as she posed by a colorful door.

'When you see a door this foxy ya take a selfie,' she captioned the photo, along with a winking emoji.

Wowza: Jessica Simpson sizzled as she showed off her svelte body in her latest Instagram post

She beamed with joy as she held out the phone to capture the moment.

Jessica wore a large pair of circular shades, turquoise-accented hoop earrings, and an array of necklaces which plunged into her cleavage.

It's just the latest snap showing off Jessica's impressive 100 pound weight loss.

On Thursday, the mother-of-three, who was vacationing in Mexico with her husband Eric Johnson, wowed her fans in a brown two-piece after admitting earlier this year that she once thought her bikini days were behind her.

'Without 3 kids needing me to hurry, I had the time to accessorize the bikini,' she wrote to her 6.1million followers, adding: 'It is the little things that make me happy.'

Impressive: Simpson continued to show off 100lbs weight loss in a two-piece on vacation in Mexico... after previously thinking she would 'never' wear a bikini again

Earlier this year, Jessica wrote in a candid post that she 'never' thought she would be able to show off her figure after yo-yo dieting over the years.

'I have gained and lost 100lbs 3x, so I never thought this moment could or would happen, but I'm finally spring breakin'wearin’ a BIKINI!!!!!!,' she wrote.

The singer added: 'Hard work, Determination, Self Love. I enjoyed a good proud cry today.'

Just hanging out in her hotel: The siren also posted this image to her Insta Stories plugging the platform heels which matched her suit

Jessica, who celebrated turning 42 this July, recently shared a love letter to herself to mark her birthday.

She wrote: 'Oh lil Mrs 42 look at you leanin' into the moonbeams to recharge and radiate a purposeful glowing heart.

'I am very proud of my faith, resilience and strength over the last 4 decades.

Incredible: Simpson, 42, wowed in a cut-out swimsuit as she said 'adios' to her 'romantic' getaway with her 'forever love' and husband Eric Johnson on Thursday

'Everything in my life that has or hasn’t happened yet makes turning 42 very exciting because I know what it takes personally to remain inside of DETERMINED PATIENCE.

'I know myself and I do love her very much.'

'I know my purpose and I must say that ladies and gents I am equipped to waltz within every dream I own confidently. I am humbled and honored to finally be my own best friend. Ok 42 time to Rock 'n' Roll.'

Weight loss journey: The star has been open about her weight with fans (Pictured in 2006)
Mama: Jessica seen on the Jay Leno Show in 2012 when she was pregnant with her first child

The Employee of the Month actress also shared a look at her birthday party, posting photos with friends and family, including her husband Eric and parents Tina and Joe Simpson.

They included a shot of Simpson blowing out a sparkler candle on a birthday cake.

She posted about a gift from her nine-year-old son, Ace, who gave her a robot costume made from cardboard boxes and a note that said: “Best mom ever in the world. I love you so much.'

Journey: Simpson became a Weight Watchers spokeswoman after the birth of her daughter Maxwell in May 2012 (Pictured above in 2013)

Simpson, who has daughters Maxwell, 10, and Birdie Mae, three, with Johnson as well as Ace, also showed off her bikini body in posts about a Fourth of July break to Lake Austin, Texas.

She said: 'We asked the kids where they wanted to go for their summer trip and out of everywhere, they chose Texas to be with their cousins.

'It was a sentimental and nostalgic blast of a week.'

Roll with it: It comes as Jessica revealed she has taken up roller-skating again as it makes her feel young, she said in a recent interview
Throwback: The siren wore short shorts beautifully in her 2005 film The Dukes Of Hazzard

Set the Mood With These 40 Sexy Country Songs - Taste of Country

There's no need to rush through this list of 40 sexy country songs. Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and Faith Hill are a few artists representing the modern era of country romance, but fans of classic country will also find wax-melting hits from Kenny Rogers, Alabama and Barbara Mandrell.

Only one artist is represented twice, and that's just because she added her voice to a sexy collaboration with her husband before dropping her own bedroom ballad. Songs that encourage a slow dance and maybe a little bit more got a nod over those that come close to spelling S-E-X. The exception to that rule is song No. 1, which proves it's about what you say and how you say it.

Seven decades of country music hits are represented on this list of sexy songs. One or two describe a relationship that's gone by, and another half dozen find the singer pining for something they can't (or really shouldn't) have. Everlasting love was not a qualifier, as you'll find out when you listen to songs No. 4, 7, 11 and 19.

Sexy Country Songs - 40 of the Hottest Country Hits, Ranked

This list of 40 sexy country songs prove that great country singers have been singing about intimacy for a long, long time. The Taste of Country staff ranked 40 songs from seven decades of country music to find the most passionate performances ever put to the radio speakers. Did your favorite late-night romance song make this list of country's hottest songs?

'The Rookie' Fans Can't Look Away From Jenna Dewan's Sexy High Slit Dress on IG - Good Housekeeping

From firefighter gear to ballgown attire, The Rookie actress Jenna Dewan knows how to effortlessly transform her look.

Earlier this year, on March 24, the Step Up star attended Vanity Fair and Lancôme's Future of Hollywood event in Los Angeles with fiancé Steve Kazee. While the party may have not featured Jenna as an honoree, she definitely made a statement with the outfit she wore.

Donning a plunging black dress, the World of Dance host's gown featured black mesh and bedazzled embellishments that highlighted a high slit. To further heighten the allure of the dress, Jenna wore minimal jewelry including her engagement ring and diamond earrings. In order to keep the focus on just the ensemble, she completed the look with nude heels. What's more, the ABC star tied it together with a silvery smoky eye, nude lips and beach waves.

While Jenna didn't post photos of the event to her social media, her fiancé most definitely did. Steve not only shared a couple's photo taken from the night, he also gave his partner the highest of praises.

"Mom and Dad…the Future of Hollywood," he wrote on Instagram the next day. "Thank you @vanityfair and @lancomeofficial for having us ... Thank you @bradgoreski @daniela_viviana @dendoll @brittsully for dressing and shining me up so I can do justice to that perfect 10 next to me. 🔥."

When Rookie fans caught wind of the sweet post, they flooded Steve's comments section to share their thoughts.

"Wow stunning couple," one fan wrote. "Jenna is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥," another noted. "Those are two incredibly beautiful humans ! 👏❤️," a different follower wrote.

Can we expect Jenna to pull a dress like this out of the set closet for The Rookie season 5? We're not sure. But for now, we'll just keep being in awe of her sheer beauty.

Some Answers to That Viral Tweet About Childless Millennials - The Cut

Photo-Illustration: The Cut

The only rule on Twitter is if you have a thought, you must tweet it. This is the sole explanation for a recent viral tweet questioning what young adults without kids plan to do after they turn 40 years old. “Millennials who are very cavalier about not having children are in for a shock when they enter their 40s & realize life is only half over,” wrote Shane Morris, a podcast host and resident millennial for the Christian nonprofit Colson Center. “What do you do at that point? Keep trying to be sexy & have fun? I expect to see a lot of sadness & confusion about what to do at that point.”

Hmmm, what do you do at that point, millennials? Start an Instagram for your avocado toast? Sort your student-loan providers into Hogwarts houses? Stop fighting the inevitable and create a Pinterest board for your cheugy cemetery plot? “Without the natural connections and belonging that literally emerge from marriage and fertility, the latter years become very cold and lonely,” Morris continued in his tweet. “Those ‘Friendsgivings’ will get old, quickly.” Yes, just like you, you withering crone, your friendly gatherings will grow old and tired. How does one foster meaningful connections and have relationships with people other than their spouse or offspring? Can you even have friends that aren’t legally bound to you in some capacity??

Since his tweet gained attention, Morris has issued a call for people to send him “the most insane/unhinged/revealing replies to that millennial childlessness tweet (esp from blue checks).” That too has appeared to backfire, as most of the replies are screenshots of Morris’s own tweets.

The sad fact is there aren’t any examples of people over 40 who live a happy, fulfilling life without kids. Fortunately, I am still a spry and virile (though currently childless) 31-year-old. Thus, I have a few years left to keep trying to be sexy and have fun. (As we all know, you cannot be sexy or have fun after age 40.) So, I have devised a few answers about what to do once you reach that godforsaken point.

Use your disposable income to buy a houseboat. Time to be irresponsible with your savings, you selfish wench! Sell your belongings and live in the middle of the ocean where there’s no internet or any viral tweets. Make friends with some dolphins. Tell them about Instagram Reels. Stare into the sun until you are physically unable to look at a screen ever again.

Travel. Unfortunately, as a childless adult, there are very few places you can go. Ball pits and bouncy houses are out of the question. So are school-choir concerts, parent-teacher conferences, and art-museum field trips where you have to tell someone else’s fifth-grader to stop trying to lick the statues’ feet. After that, what places are left? The DMV?? Perhaps you can spend some time there.

Think about why you didn’t have kids. With all that extra time you have because you didn’t have kids, you’ve now freed your schedule up for the next best thing: thinking about why you didn’t have kids! Was it economic instability? The ever-worsening climate crisis? Post-pandemic stories from parents? Other priorities? Infertility? The simple fact that you didn’t want to and don’t owe an explanation to anyone? Are you sure it’s not the thing about trying to be sexy? Speaking of which …

Be ugly and have a bad time. Your time for being sexy is over! You are now entering your hideous and grotesque era. No crop tops and duck lips! Stop doing hygiene! Only terrible vibes and tasteless outfits from here on out.

In the meantime, enjoy those Friendsgivings and whatever else it is that childless adults do.

See Alison Brie Show Off This Sexy Cut-Out Mini-Dress - Giant Freakin Robot

By Douglas Helm | Published

alison brie

Alison Brie has been hitting the interview and talk show circuit to promote her new movie Spin Me Round, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have time to do a little bit of Instagram marketing as well. She took to the social media platform to post a series of pics in a stunning black mini dress with white polka dots. Check out her post below:

Alison Brie looks as amazing as ever, and she made sure to throw in a #spinmeround hashtag to get some more traction for the newly released Spin Me Round. The film came out on August 19 and is now available for streaming if you want to check it out for yourself. The film is a comedy that stars Brie as a woman who wins an all-expenses-paid trip to her company’s institute in Florence, Italy. While she’s there, she gets the chance to meet the charismatic owner of the restaurant chain. Brie stars along with Alessandro Nivola, Aubrey Plaza, Jake Picking, Lil Rey Howery, Debby Ryan, Zach Woods, Molly Shannon, and more. The film was directed by Jeff Baena who also co-wrote the script with Brie.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Alison Brie in a movie, with her last film being the holiday comedy Happiest Season in 2020. Since then, she’s mostly taken voice-acting roles in projects like Star Wars: Visions and Rick and Morty. She did return to live-action earlier in the year with her role in the anthology TV series Roar, which depicted various stories of different women. Brie starred in her own episode titled “The Woman Who Solved Her Own Murder.”

While Alison Brie had a brief hiatus from movie roles, she’s certainly making up for lost time in 2022. Along with Spin Me Round, her movie Somebody I Used to Know is expected to release sometime before the end of the year. Somebody I Used to Know will star Brie as a workaholic who returns to her hometown and reminisces about the person she became with her ex. She also meets Cassidy, a person who reminds her of who she used to be. The film is directed by Brie’s husband, Dave Franco. They also co-wrote the script together. Somebody I Used to Know also stars Haley Joel Osment, Amy Sedaris, Kiersey Clemons, Danny Pudi, Zoe Chao, Hannah Barefoot, Jay Ellis, Ayden Mayeri, and more.

Of course, Alison Brie isn’t leaving voice-acting behind by any means. She’s set to have a guest role in the upcoming Marvel animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which follows 13-year-old supergenius Lunella as she protects New York’s Lower East Side from danger with her T-Rex. The series co-stars Diamond White and Fred Tatasciore as the titular duo, with Alfre Woodard, Sasheer Zamata, Jermaine Fowler, Gary Anthony Williams, and Libe Barer also starring. Along with Brie, guest voices for the first season will include Andy Cohen, Pamela Adlon, Daveed Diggs, Luis Guzman, Maya Hawke, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Method Man, and many more. In the meantime, make sure to check out Brie’s newest project, Spin Me Round!

According to a tweet from the boy band’s official Twitter account, the collab will arrive on Sept. 1. When it drops, “SEXY NUKIM” will serve as RM’s first musical output since he and his band mates announced earlier this summer that they’d be taking a hiatus as a group to concentrate on various solo projects. So far, the rapper has used that time to prep ARMY for the release of his forthcoming photography book Me, Myself, and RM: ‘Entirety.’

Which Part of Jane Krakowski's Sexy Nine Number Never Got Rehearsed? - Playbill

I’m finally back in NYC for more than a few days! I was in San Francisco doing my 70s Variety Show and then I went to Provincetown with Chita Rivera, Donna McKechnie, Rachel Bay Jones and Lillias White. I’m here for another week and then I'll be headed back to Provincetown with Audra McDonald. In a few weeks, I’m going to be doing my concert series with Jane Krakowski at The Town Hall on Monday September 12th. Come see us!

I mentioned Jane to my trainer at the gym and he thought my concert was going to be all-comedy. He thought Jane was a comedic actress from 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and had no idea she’s a triple threat Tony-winning musical theater star!

Just in case he reads my column (he doesn’t), I will say that she’s been in musical theater since she was a kid and she won a Tony Award for the 2003 Nine revival. In fact, Jane was actually was almost part of the original production back in the 80's.

Turns out, Tommy Tune’s original concept was for the “Lady of the Spa” to be a young girl on the verge of womanhood to be consistent with the spa symbolizing eternal youth. So Jane was brought in when she was 12. She worked with him on the set, featuring all of those boxes, but he wound up casting an adult woman in the part. Five years later, Jane got another call from Tommy to see if she was right for a workshop he was doing. Jane came in and worked with him again and, after a few hours, he opened a bottle of champagne and said, "Congratulations! You're our new Flaemmchen!"

I loved the story, but then I pointed out that he was offering her champagne when she was only 17. Just like Liesel in The Sound of Music who'd "like to stay and taste [her] first champagne!”

The first time I saw Jane on Broadway was in Grand Hotel, and I was obsessed with her performance. She had such incredible body awareness. I can’t stop watching this clip. The men sound so good, and her dancing is so simply amazing. I love the button where she puts her hand forward and then back against the wall.

Jane said the workshop for Grand Hotel took place in an actual dilapidated hotel in the West 40s. It looked just like the set that would eventually be used in the Broadway show. The company would meet every day, and Tommy would assign them chapters to read from original novel. Then they would improvise those chapters as their characters. The writers would go home, take what they improv'd, and add to it until the script. Tada! That's how they wrote the songs.

Jane said that what makes Tommy so unique is his collaborative spirit. He would not only listen to everyone's ideas while he was creating the show, but he would also take people's everyday behavior and put it in the show. For instance, Jane said that the hotel, which she thinks was condemned, had rodents in the bathroom. Yay? She was too horrified to change there, yet every day she had to change out of her jeans and winter boots into her Flaemmchen short skirt and heels. So, she would change in public. Yep, Jane perfected a way of changing her entire outfit without ever showing any skin.

Tommy was so obsessed her amazing maneuvering that he kept trying to put that into the show. Sadly, it never happened. Maybe I can incorporate it into our Town Hall concert!?

Speaking of incorporating behavior from rehearsal, most Broadway fans know there is a number in the show called "We'll Take a Glass Together." The song itself was great, but the dance changed many times. It incorporated many styles of dance, including tap, but never really worked. Tommy told me that his Mom was very sick when he was working on the show, and he would fly home to see her very often. He told her that he was having problems with the number, and she suggested that, since it takes place in the 1920s, he should do a signature 1920s dance. She got out of her bed and demonstrated a Charleston. Well, Tommy then made that the basis of the number.

Jane told me that one day during a break, Michael Jeter went over to the hotel bar and made his legs rubbery to make everyone laugh. Then he leapt over the bar. As soon as he did that leap, Tommy told everyone to go home except Michael and David Carroll. That day, Tommy created the brilliant number that was featured on the Tony Awards. It's a Charleston featuring Michael's rubber legs. The number builds to the moment when he leaps over the bar. Watch!

Most people consider it one of the best Tony Awards numbers ever.

Sadly, in that Tony Award clip, you don't see the brilliant David Carroll, who had to leave the show after contracting AIDS. The adorable Brent Barrett took over after David's departure, but David was still featured on the recording singing his heart-stopping rendition of "Love Can't Happen." I still remember my stunned reaction when I saw him sing the final note of this song live. It was one of my favorite moments in the theatre. Here's my deconstruction:

Speaking of David Carroll, he and Jane were very close. When the show was leaving for its out-of-town tryout in Boston, he wanted to take Amtrak instead of flying. Jane was the only other cast member who volunteered to go with him, and he was so excited! Jane went down to 14th St and got one of those new-fangled suitcases that had just came out in the 80s, a suitcase with wheels. Of course, since it was one of the first, it immediately broke. David felt bad for her and carried her overstuffed suitcase all the way through Penn Station and then through the streets of Boston to their hotel. She remembered that it weighed a ton and was horrific for him to have to carry.

Later that year, he celebrated his 40th birthday and she was struggling to pick out a gift for him. She finally decided on a present, but the special part was going to be its presentation. She went back to 14th St, got the exact same suitcase and put the present inside it. When he saw it at his party, he exclaimed, "Ah! Not this effing suitcase again!"

Such a hilarious way to wrap his present.

Jumping back to the 2003 production of Nine for a moment, Jane was nervous when she was cast because the role she played was originated by Anita Morris. Anita was known for her brilliantly sexy rendition of "A Call From The Vatican." The number featured Anita doing all these contortions while on a box. See for yourself!

Jane had no idea how she could make the number her own.

One day she was sharing a cab with the director David Leveaux and he said, "I think we're going to fly you in for your number."

Jane was so excited that she climbed across the back seat and hugged him. She knew that was the concept they needed.

Jane trained in "anti-gravity" for weeks, but the contraption that flew her in wasn't ready to use until the first preview! I don’t mean during rehearsal that day, either. I mean it wasn’t ready until the night of the first preview. They told her that she could wait and do the song without it, but she didn't want people to see the number and spread the word that it didn't have a special feature. Jane went up to the ceiling of the theatre, wrapped herself in a sheet, and tried it for the first time during the first preview. It was so scary. The move wound up being a huge hit. The audience loved it.

Jane remembers being hoisted up at the end and the crowd going wild. But, instead of running offstage immediately and sharing in her triumph with the rest of the cast, she had to hang upside down above the stage by herself because she was attached to what was essentially a clothesline. So, after the number, she was pulled slowly across the entire stage to the wings. By the time she got down, she had to rush into a quick change way after the applause had ended. She and her dresser did get to hug and have a little freak out that the number went so well. Here she is flying in, having phone sex, and flying out!

Of course, for the people who only know her from comedy television, we will definitely be discussing 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I know we’ll be doing some of her classic numbers like:

Peace out!

Lena Dunham's new movie is full of sex — but not at all sexy - Forward

When “Girls” came out, it was an instant revelation. Lena Dunham was hailed as a prodigy, groundbreaking, largely for her depiction of a certain variety of early-20s casual sex. She eschewed the standard: quick cuts between tangled tongues and undulating bodies and hands grasping the sheets, set to swelling music and capped by a single, orgasmic gasp. Instead, “Girls” forced the viewer to actually contend with the fumbling and teeth-bumping and fundamental awkwardness of sticking bodies together. There was rarely background music, just stuttering grunts and protracted heavy breathing.

“Sharp Sticks,” Dunham’s new movie, is also focused on sex, and it’s also awkward. But it’s left the realism behind, exchanging it for a chaotic interchange between grit and camp.

“Sharp Sticks” follows Sarah Jo (Kristine Froseth), an unbearably naïve 26-year-old who lives with her mother and adopted sister. Treina, the sister, is becoming an influencer, and spends her days shooting twerking videos and flirting with men in her DMs. The mother spends her days lounging in silk robes, smoking weed — which she shares with Treina — and regaling both daughters with tales of her one-night stands and ex-husbands.

Sarah Jo wears ankle-length denim skirts with colorful tights and fills her hair with colorful plastic barrettes or bows. She’s not just virginal — she feels like an actual child, with toddler-esque tics like tonguing yogurt as though she’s just learning how to chew.

All of this contributes to a deep sense of discomfort when she suddenly decides to pursue sex with a single-minded obsession. She begins an affair with the married father (a roguish-yet-puerile Jon Bernthal) of the disabled child she cares for; she woos him by simply standing in front of him and lifting her skirt.

It is difficult to believe how little Sarah Jo knows about sex or lust or romance, especially given her worldly, gossiping mother and sister. When Josh, the husband, introduces her to porn, she has not only never seen it before but apparently never heard of the concept. At one point, we’re treated to a slapstick montage of Sarah Jo intently blowing on Josh in an attempt to perform her first blowjob. It’s contrived and overdone, just like Sarah Jo’s outfits.

Predictably, they get caught and it all falls apart. Josh is a serial cheater and returns sniveling to his wife (Dunham), swearing up and down that he doesn’t care about Sarah Jo. It’s pretty by-the-book.

Except that Sarah Jo, hurt, interprets the demise of her relationship as a result of her lack of experience. “Was I bad at sex?” she wonders. “Maybe everything I didn’t know how to do made me impossible to really love. And maybe if I knew it all, nobody would ever have a chance to do it to me again.”

So Sarah Jo decides to make an alphabetical list of sexual acts and kinks to try — which, true to form, she collages out of colorful construction paper like something you’d hang on the wall of a kindergarten classroom — and doggedly begins checking them off with help from strangers off the internet. (Occasionally, as with necrophilia, she decides to skip a bullet point.)

In the end, she writes her experiences up into a tell-all letter to a pornstar, who sends her an oddly heartwarming video message with a neat moral for the audience to take home. “People split up for all kinds of reasons and it’s very rarely because someone isn’t a sex genius. You know why? Nobody is a sex genius,” he says, plus some expletives. “Good sex requires chemistry between two people – two people who care.”

It’s a surprisingly conservative moral for Dunham, who made her reputation pushing the boundaries of promiscuity and provocativeness in her work. It’s especially confusing when reading Dunham’s production notes, where she writes that she wanted “to imagine a character whose sexual journey would be totally unique, unmarred by shame or self-hate or the projections of others” and who “would use sex not to destroy her body but to heal it from a history of medicalized trauma and cultural projection.”

But “Sharp Stick” is full of shame, self-hate and cultural projections. Sarah Jo has sex because she’s ashamed to be a 26-year-old virgin. She chases new sexual experiences out of fear that she was bad at sex. Her sexual preferences are formed directly from the gaze of others. And nothing about her sexual journey seems healing, except perhaps the simple fact that she discovers she can have sex.

Admittedly, sex means different things to different people, or in different situations, and the film’s mixed aesthetics and disjointed messaging captures this. The movie makes the most sense as autobiography (as much of Dunham’s work is), embodying what is likely Dunham’s own equivocal relationship to sexual empowerment and pleasure.

Dunham thrust herself into sexuality, extremely publicly, in “Girls,” and then struggled with the attention and judgment that followed. Perhaps Dunham felt childish and unnatural in her public, sexual persona, and Sarah Jo’s cartoonish, over-the-top naïveté gives insight into her state of mind going through her early days of fame. Perhaps Dunham, too, pushed herself into sexual situations she was unprepared for.

But beyond attempts to plumb the depths of Dunham’s psyche, it’s hard to figure out what to make of “Sharp Stick.” It’s visually stylized and compellingly strange, but it’s not clear what, exactly, it’s trying to challenge. Is the film portraying sex as empowering and freeing, thumbing its nose at traditional values? Is it grappling with the dangerous realities of sex in the internet era? Is it grating against the liberal status quo to argue that sex, after all, is best saved for a committed relationship? Even after years of public grappling with sex, Dunham still can’t decide what she wants to say about it.

“Sharp Stick” is now playing in select theaters and available to rent on streaming services.

Meghan Says Serena Williams Made Pregnancy Look 'Sexy': 'I Just Waddled' - Newsweek

Meghan Markle has praised her friend Serena Williams for making pregnancy "look so sexy," while she "just waddled around" while expecting.

The two celebrities spoke about their experiences as parents during Williams' appearance on the inaugural episode of Meghan's solo podcast Archetypes, which was released on Spotify Tuesday.

Tennis ace Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Olympia in September 2017, while Meghan and Prince Harry became parents to their son Archie in May 2019. The royals' daughter, Lilibet, was born in June 2021.

During the podcast interview, Williams spoke about the recent announcement that she would be retiring from playing tennis professionally, focusing on her independent business pursuits, and having more children.

"I'm retiring professionally, but it's also an evolution," said Williams, who has been friends with Meghan for several years. "I'm doing more business things. And I really want to expand my family. And, you know, I've been putting it off for so long.

"And as a woman, there's only so, so long you can put that off. And, you know, other people out, other men out there can continue to play.

"But I love being a woman and I love, I loved being pregnant. You know, I was one of those. I was like, 'Oh, I love this...I'm so happy.' Like, I was literally one of...those women."

"Forget it," responded Meghan. "It's just like everything. You made pregnancy look so sexy. I just waddled around. I was just tired. So tired. Oh my God."

"I was the annoying one," said Williams, who is reported to have hosted Meghan's baby shower in 2019 ahead of the birth of her first child. "You were under a lot of stress.

"Yeah, it's true," Meghan conceded, with neither specifying what that stress was.

"But I have to say that it's just I look forward to it," Williams continued. "I've been fortunate enough to play tennis really well, but I think my best is being a mom. I think I can really be really good at that."

Elsewhere during their conversation, Williams returned the praise to Meghan, as she spoke of the support that the former Suits star and Harry had provided while making Williams' decision to step away from the sport that catapulted her to stardom.

Williams told Meghan that she "just wanted you to just understand what it meant to have your support and for H's support, for everything. Because it's been hard, you know, like you've been in the locker rooms where I've been really down and debating 'Why am I even doing this?'

"But ultimately, I love what I do and that's why I'm still doing it. And it's good to have a chance to go out there and have a nice goodbye, but I definitely, will be very emotional. But...it's not sad tears, but there are sad tears, but it's not like the tears were like, are you okay, Serena? You know, it's different. It's totally different.

"And honestly, I don't know how I'm going to feel in three weeks or four weeks. I just, I don't know. My whole life has been one thing. And so now I can focus on Serena Ventures, which I'm excited about."

Early in the 57-minute podcast episode, Meghan introduced Harry, who had walked in as the duchess began her remote conversation with Williams.

"You wanna come say hi? Look who just popped in," Meghan said, before she and Serena were heard imitating an English accent.

"How you doing?...I like what you've done with your hair! That's a great vibe," the prince said before telling the athlete to "come and see us."

After Meghan told Harry that she and Serena would make a plan, he exited the room and told the pair to "have fun."

The Archetypes podcast was created to examine the labels in modern-day society that attempt to hold women back. It is produced by Meghan and Harry's Archewell Audio production company in conjunction with Spotify.

Its release signifies the couple's first significant content unveiling of 2022 resulting from the media deals they signed with Spotify and Netflix following their stepping down as full-time working members of the royal family in 2020.

In December 2020, the couple released a special holiday episode of a joint podcast with Spotify under the Archewell Audio name, the audio production arm of their Archewell organization.

The special featured cameo appearances from celebrities such as Tyler Perry, James Corden and Sir Elton John. Since then, Harry has not announced any further podcast projects.
